Zealand - 1993 - © Lloyd Godman
Introduction
Codes of Survival is a project

Introduction
During the 1850s there was an attempt by the Enderby Company to set
up a settlement at Hardwicke, near Erebus Cove. The financial foundation
for the settlement was to be the servicing of the strong Whale and Sealing
in the area. In truth this activity had declined due to the earlier plundering
of the resource, and the settlement floundered within a few years.

visit these islands to experience the unique environment, and create
a series of works that toured New Zealand from 1990 -92. Codes of
Survival is Godman's contribution to this project and involved combination
