Codes of Survival - a series of combination Photographs/photograms on the Subantarctic Islands of New Zealand - 1993 - © Lloyd Godman

Codes of Survival is a project by Lloyd Godman based on New Zealand's subantarctic islands and in particular the Auckland Islands. These islands lie in the great southern ocean between
New Zealand and the Antarctic continent, in the wild ocean  waters swept by  constant winds  and squalls.

During 1989 Godman was involved in instigating a project that saw 11 artists visit these islands to experience the unique environment, and create a series of works that toured New Zealand from 1990 -92. Codes of  Survival is Godman's contribution to this project and involved combination photographs photograms, 40 short stories, an installation and music by Peter Adams.
