Photographic Processes - (Hand

Types of alternative
photographic processes
There is
a wide variety of alternative processes that can be utilized for making
images, these can be grouped into three categories in terms of how the
image is formed.
Light
sensitive materials
In these
emulsions the image is formed by the light sensitive chemical itself.
Usually during the process there is a change in the chemical nature of
the emulsion that alters the areas effected by light and allows the other
areas to be reduced away leaving a recognizable image. So the tone of
the image is actually formed by the chemical.
Infusion
Pigment
In these
emulsions the image is formed by a colour pigment mixed with emulsion.
Usually during the process there is a change in the chemical nature of
the emulsion that alters the areas effected by light and allows the other
areas to be reduced away leaving a recognizable pigment image.
Transfer
Ink or oil
Still others
like Bromoil rely on the photosensitive materials, and process providing
a matrix that either attracts or repels ink which in turn is transferred
to a paper. So the image in this case is formed on the paper by ink.
