Colonization of Flora - © Lloyd Godman - 1993
artist journal - Colonization Flora - Lloyd Godman
During
a trip to Sydney 1993 I was fascinated with some struggling specimens
of Pohutakawa tree growing adjacent to the Sydney opera house. I found
it interesting how New Zealand plants had colonized this strategic Australian
cultural icon. Since then I have photographed over New Zealand native
plants growing in other parts of the world.
It is quite amazing
the locations that the have been infiltrated - for instance growing inside
the dom in Cologne, an Italian boarder post, A keith Harring Sculpture
near MOMA in San Francisco and inside the grounds of Fondation Maeght,
St Paul de Vance France.
As the series continues
to grow my ideas about this will also develop.
