As the sun arched across the sky. The time and compass bearing was taken to coincide with each photograph. A square format camera was used positioned on a diagonal which placed the apex of the island in the apex of each frame. The journey began at 5.29am 110 degrees east and continued until the sun moved to fast to keep in line with the island at 9.38am 74  degrees east.

This first summer solstice sojourn involved a short journey staring on the beach north east of Brighton, near Dunedin, New Zealand at 110degrees East at 5.29am (sunrise) on 21/12/88 and followed the coast line keeping the rising sun in line with the apex of Green Island and moving down the coast until a position was reached at 74 degrees East at 9.38am when the sun was moving too fast to keep pace with. The time each photograph was taken and the compass bearing towards the sun was recorded.

Each photograph was taken with a square format camera mounted on a diagonal, and while this created interesting framing, it also acted as a reference to a fulcrum where the sun sits at one end of it's journey ready to turn back to the shorter days of winter. The pyramidal form of the island remains at the top of each frame.
