just got back from NZ no waves with the new fourth gear flyer air matt I got from Paul Gross yet  - but I found this shot when I was in NZ of me paddling up a wave in Hawaii on a hodgeman air mat. I got out the back caught the next wave in the tube but got hammered in the shore dump

Beautiful conditions - 1974 I witnessed this huge clean swell hit Hanelai Bay Kauai. It was the largest ridable swell of the 73-4 season.

 So we checked it from the cliff top before paddling out ourselves

with the waves at 15-18 feet  my old mate Chris Brock and rode his stand-up stick and I rode it on an air mat - without doubt the largest waves I have ever ridden on a mat

EXTRENE GARDENING

Some Tillandsia species can with-stand strong salt winds and at Easter 2018, and in another episode of EXTRENE GARDENING - I got to put a Tillandsia to a through and extreme test by taking one surfing. It had actually taken a full year to organize all the conditions, good surf on an over cast day when I was at the beach.

Air Matts

From 1963 I had ridden air mats which are inflatable surfing craft. I rode air mats in Hawaii 1973-4 and on an off in New Zealand for decades. More recently I have returned to ride them exclusively. So, in  this another episode of EXTRENE GARDENING there was a fusion of air plant and air mat at a break called Eagles Nest near Inverloch.
