the use of shapes in visual design
Basic
- Shapes
|
|
Rectangles
are built on horizontal and vertical lines and as such reference the camera frame. |
|
|
triangles
are based on diagonal lines - because they have three sides there is always at least one side that sits in the frame as a diadonal. |
|
|
and circles
on curves, these tend to lead the eye in a curve or a circle |
As the principle
design strategy of lines is to direct the eye, that of shapes is to
organize the elements of the image. As such shapes can have an order
higher than lines with a more advanced function in an image. Shapes
also have an expressive character that contributes to the mood of an
image.
