The Point in visual design

Mouse over

When we add a second, perhaps smaller point, the two objects set up a visual dynamic between each other in the image which can add a balance or an imbalance in the image . It can also suggest movement in the image from one point to the other.

Again the placement of each of these points tends to have a predictable way the the audience will read the image. While we read from left to right, we also tend to read from the largest object towards the smallest. So if the largest point is on the left the visual strategy has more impact. Often photographers will horizontally reverse their image to achieve this.

If there is a smaller separation between visual points in an image we get a sense of less movement.
