Investigation
2
This
is an experiment to see how in the west we tend to read images from
top to bottom - left to right.
Take an abstract or ambiguous photographic image and create 4 copies
of the image each one rotated through 90°
Look
how we read each image in different ways. See how they can instill a
different feeling. Try this with your own images in Photo shop.
For this image of
the Clutha River for the Last
Rivers Song work I laterally reversed the 3 images on the
left |
|
Take
an image that has a subject with diminishing perspective - play
with laterally reversing it -
When we read
this image left to right we get a sense that the train is going
way - the perspective gets smaller as it moves to the right. |
|
Where
as in this image the train appears to get larger and suggest the
idea that it has come towards us. |
