Investigation 2

This is an experiment to see how in the west we tend to read images from top to bottom - left to right.

Take an abstract or ambiguous photographic image and create 4 copies of the image each one rotated through 90°

Look how we read each image in different ways. See how they can instill a different feeling. Try this with your own images in Photo shop.

For this image of the Clutha River for the Last Rivers Song work I laterally reversed the 3 images on the left

 

Take an image that has a subject with diminishing perspective - play with laterally reversing it -

When we read this image left to right we get a sense that the train is going way - the perspective gets smaller as it moves to the right.

Where as in this image the train appears to get larger and suggest the idea that it has come towards us.
