Exploring Perspective and vanishing point

Find a defined rectangular subject like a painting about 1m high by 1.5m long.

Chose a standard focal length lens - 50mm for a standard 35mm film camera or equivalent digital

find a central position to photograph the subject so as all sides are parallel with the horizontal and vertical sides of the camera frame - frame the subject so as it nearly fills the frame.

Move 1/2 metre to one side and take another image - observe what happens to the horizontal lines of the subject in relationship to the edge of the frame.

Move 1/2 metre higher or lower and take another image - observe what happens to the horizontal lines of the subject in relationship to the edge of the frame.

Change the lens to wide angle lens - say 20 -28mm on a 35mm film camera or equivalent digital and move in closer to fill the frame - carry out the same experiment and compare the results.

Then change the lens to a telephoto - say 100 - 135mm on a 35mm film camera, or equivalent digital - carry out the same experiment and compare the results.
