Washing & drying the photogram print

After the paper is fixed, it must be washed to remove all traces of chemicals or these would continue to react on the image over time. With resin coated paper, this only takes one to two minutes in running water, fibre based takes much longer, up to an hour.

Remember putting more freshly processed prints in on top of washing prints contaminates them, using two wash baths solves this.

Failure to fix and wash photographs properly is the major cause of their deterioration over time so take care with this part of the process.

Once the print is washed, hang up on a line with a peg to dry.
