Light in Photography -   LIGHTING - Sunlight - Effect of Time of day - mid-day

Daylight mid-day

Day light is the natural white light we associate with the larger part of the day - say from 1hr after sunrise to 1 hr before sunset. In fact the colour of the light is changing through the day. From the hours of 10am to 2pm there is very little change. As the sun moves towards sunset the change becomes more rapid. The last hour before sunset or just after sunrise there are dramatic changes in the colour and direction of the light - the last ten minutes before sunset of after sunrise these changes are at the most dramatic.

  Rhobe, Australia
At mid-day when sun is high the shadows are very short as we see in this image of the dead parrot.
Where as early in the morning or late in the evening when the sun is lower on the horizon the shadows are longer.
