Photographic Syntax

(The language of Photography)

 

Photographers not only use subject to define their work; aesthetic approach, medium and specific techniques are used to unify their work as well. Some artist using photography centre their work on ideas, concepts and issues. In photo documentary and photojournalism Time, place and event can act to unify work. Often a combination of these are applied.

 

In literature, Syntax refers to the way in which words are put together to form sentences and phrases, it relates to the way text is constructed to give meaning.

For instance the words

Green Olive

might carry the meaning of an olive fruit

 

 

Where as the words

Olive Green

might mean a colour
