Halftone a Technique to reproduce a continuous tone photograph as a fine mosaic of tiny dots. In conventional halftones, images are represented as variably sized dots arranged in a grid pattern with a precise screen frequency. Halftones simulate the illusion of tone when photographs are reproduced using printing presses. Traditionally, halftones were made by photographing an image through a screen, but today most are generated digitally. See stochastic screening.
