Density

The degree of opacity in each area of an image. As density increases, the amount of reflected or transmitted light is reduced. Highlights are more opaque (less transparent) than the mid tones or shadows., which are less opaque. Density units are recorded up to 2.50D ( for reflective art) or 6.00+D (film). Initial measurements define a paper white ( clear areas of film, as a zero density (0.00D). While 6.00D ( black) transmission levels can be read, most reproducible tones fall between 0.00 and 5.00D. Density can also be measured as a % of black.
