Analog

Any measurement and recording system in which the continuiously varying values of elements of the physical world, such as sound, temperature, light, etc correspond proportionally to values such as electrical voltages. Analog signals are so named because they are analogies of reality.

Perpahs the best way of understanding this is with an analog clock where the hands rotate past every point and a digital clock where the change take palce in steps.

Traditional chemical based photography, vinyl sound recordings and even electronic still video cameras are analog devices. The comparison between digitally stored in formation and analog is that digital info is a series of steps while analog is like a sloping ramp.
