Incident
Light meter Readings
Incident light meters measure the light falling on the subject
instead of the light reflected from the subject and the exposure
is calculated from this reading. An incident meter is held
as close as possible with its inva cone aimed toward the camera. It
receives light from the same direction and at the same intensity
as the subject does. This is translated into an average 'middle
grey' exposure setting. The main advantage of the incident
meter reading is that it cannot be fooled by subject tones.
Its main disadvantage is that it cannot read them.
