Polaroid Neg Pos film Type 55

This is an instant processing Polaroid film that gives both a print and a negative. Depending upon the camera you use the size of the neg can be quite large compared to 35mm. Many photographers use it for 4x5” or even 8x10” although there are Polaroid camera that will take it. It comes as sheet film that is load into a special Polaroid back that fits into a view camera.

Once the scene is aligned, the Polaroid back is slid into place, (between the ground glass which is used to view the scene and the back of the camera where the bellows ends) the sheet film is slid into the holder and locked in place. After the photograph is taken a release clip on the holder is released and the film is pulled out. The release clip also brings to rollers to be out on the surface of the material which breaks a little hard containing chemicals and squeezes it out across the film. This begins the processing of the image Which takes about a minute depending on the temperature. After this time the backing paper is peeled away and the print and the negative are revealed. Around the edge of the print or negative is some backing paper and often photographers take advantage of these marks by making an enlargement from a negative and including these chemical marks around the edge. So this is what we see around the edge of the prints.
